You know we’re all about supporting our local businesses in San Jose, which is why we’re excited for Earth Day this Fri., April 22. 🌎

This year’s Earth Day initiative is centered around investing in our planet — and there are lots of ways buying locally supports sustainability. To promote this goal within our community, we are introducing you to our #BuyLocalBuyGreenSJ campaign.

You know we’re all about supporting our local businesses in San Jose, which is why we’re excited for Earth Day this Fri., April 22. 🌎

To celebrate the global initiative, we are challenging youand ourselves — to only shop locally for one week. Or, at least try to swap out a few basic purchases with local options.

What would this look like? Think: Starting your morning with a pastry from Sweetdragon Baking Company, stopping by the farmers market for local produce, or perusing spring fashion at Thrill of the Luxe.

We want to follow along with your journey, as well as share ours with you. To do so, we are asking you to share photos of your local purchases or other Earth Day activities on social media using the hashtag #BuyLocalBuyGreenSJC. Throughout the week, we will spotlight what our community is up to in our newsletters + social feeds.

Don’t have social media but want to participate? Send us your photos via email.

Here are some local, sustainable recommendations to switch up your weekly routine.

We’ll be starting our days with a local caffeine boost by picking up the new Holy Mountain blend from Chromatic Coffee. Making a cup-of-joe at home + enjoying it during a walk through Kelley Park sounds right up our alley. ☕

If you opt to dine out, we hear the Knife + Fork Nachos from Good Karma Artisan Ales & Cafe or the Harissa Spiced Roasted Rutabaga from The Table is a must. 🥘

Looking for everyday essentials? The Source Zero is San Jose’s first zero-waste shop + soap refill boutique. Stop in and find goods crafted by local women artisans, such as these Organic Cotton Market Bags, or this “Sustainable Home” guidebook — perfect for anyone just starting with a sustainable lifestyle. 🛍️

Pro tip: Fellow sustainable supplier, The LoWaste Life, is popping up at several local events this month including the Atherton Earth Day Festival (Sat., April 23), the Rose Garden Farmers Market (Sat., April 23 + 30), and the Princeton Plaza Farmer Market (Sun., April 24).
