San Joseans really turned the page in 2024 — the San Jose Public Library (SJPL) released its list of its most checked out titles of the year, and we can conclude that locals have a lot of interests.
The No. 1 overall title across all age groups, genre + formats was “Dog Man: Twenty Thousand Fleas Under the Sea” by Dav Pilkey.
Other titles that were booked throughout 2024 included:
- “The Woman in Me” — Britney Spears’ memoir — was the most checked-out title among adult readers and “The Mystery Guest” by Nita Prose was No. 2.
- “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes” — “The Hunger Games” prequel by Suzanne Collins — took the top spot among teen readers, while “Divine Rivals” by Rebecca Ross was No. 2.
- “Cat Kid Comic Club: Collaborations” by Dav Pilkey was the No. 2 children’s title.
According to SJPL, 7.6 million items were borrowed over the past year — that checks out, since SJPL serves 760,000+ library cardholders.
ICYMI: Over the summer, SJPL eliminated late fines on all materials in hopes of removing barriers and encouraging San Joseans to visit their local library.
