Hey there, San Jose. Each day we get the privilege of kicking off our morning with you. We’re pen pals, friends, buddies — whatever you want to call us (consider this our formal invitation asking you to be ours), and we feel like we’ve really gotten to know one another.

So, we’re testing your knowledge. We’ve put together a SJtoday-specific game challenging you to get to know us a little more. Bonus points if you send us some of your favorites from the list. The answer key is below (but no peeking).

Let’s begin...

It’s a sunny and 70-degree San Jose day. You’ll find SJtoday editor (1) at Tostadas in Downtown with a heaping plate of chilaquiles + a tall glass of mimosa. SJtoday editor (2) is likely strolling through Japantown with an oak milk chai from Roy’s Station + spam musubi from JT Express in hand.

Omar Apollo is headlining at the San Jose Civic. SJtoday editor (3) is getting there early + has backstage passes. SJtoday editor (4) is a total theater kid — she’s looking forward to Opera San Jose’s Fri., Sept. 23 performance of “The Marriage of Figaro” and Broadway San Jose’s current production of “Cats.”

A parking lot view of the back and side of a building, which has two abstract + colorful murals.

City Editor (5) recommends walking through Downtown + exploring new murals.

Two can keep a secret, but we’re letting you in on ours.

“I’m gonna say it: Original Gravity‘s duck-fat fries are the best fries in Downtown.” –SJtoday editor (5)

“Have a car picnic at the lot on the corner of Airport Blvd. + Coleman Ave. — it’s the best view to watch planes take off and land.” –SJtoday editor (6)

Talk about hair-raising thrills.

The craziest thing you might catch SJtoday editor (7) trying out in the city is paint-balling at the Santa Clara Fairgrounds. Whereas SJtoday editor (8) may try to forge her own path — literally — at a blacksmithing class at the Visual Philosophy Studio.

Our event calendar has a hold on us. SJtoday editor (9) is still hoping to attend another Berryessa Night Market — anyone free for the Sept. 30 Spud Showdownat Garden at the Flea? SJtoday editor (10) already has eyes for Symphony San Jose’s Feb. 11-12 movie concert for “Cinema Paradiso.”

If the weather plays nice, we’re taking the scenic route. SJtoday editor (11) won’t say no to a windows down cruise along Sierra Road listening to The Peach Tree Rascals. SJtoday editor (12) enjoys the valley views from Alum Rock Park.
