An auspicious start to the month ... Yesterday marked the beginning of the Lunar New Year — but if you heard the firecrackers all around town this past week, then you know celebrations are already well underway. However, as we continue into the Year of the Tiger, expect plenty of other opportunities to experience the festivities, which include traditional lion dances, arts + crafts, and gifts of money in red envelopes. Here’s our list of upcoming Lunar New Year events that are worth attending. 🧧

Tully Community Branch Library | Fri., Feb. 4 | 2-6 p.m. | 880 Tully Rd. | Free | Families can stop by the Tully Library + grab one goodie bag and book per child while supplies last, so get there early or call ahead to check availability. 📚

Lunar New Year at SoFA Pocket Park | Fri., Feb. 4 | 3-6 p.m. | 540 S. First St. | Free | Veggielution leads a lantern-making activity to celebrate the new year — hot tea will be provided. 🏮

Santana Row | Fri., Feb. 4 | 4-6 p.m. | Free | Stop by the Row for cultural performances + exclusive discounts at many of the surrounding retailers — visitors to the “Tiger on the Row” pop-up can enter for a chance at a $250 Santana Row gift card. 🛍️

San Jose Museum of Art | Sat., Feb. 5 | 11 a.m.-4 p.m. | Free | With a mix of virtual art activities + performances by KCC Urisawe and the Rising Phoenix Lion Dance Association, there’s something for everyone here.
