  • The BART Board of Directors voted last week to require face masks on all trains and at all stations, effective immediately. This mandate will run through Sat., Oct. 1 + BART officials will reconvene on Thurs., Sept. 22 to determine if the mandate should be extended. 🚄 (ABC 7)

Development

  • Construction has begun on a five-story housing complex — located at 427 Auzerais Ave. in Downtown — which will bring 130 housing units, half available for households earning 50-60% of the Area Median Income, and half reserved as permanent supportive housing. Sustainable San Jose

#BuyLocalBuyGreenSJ

Hey San Jose, Multi-City Editor Trevor here. Earlier this year, I covered Earth Day in San Jose and shared ways you can support local and sustainably-minded businesses in the area, and it was the piece that made me fall in love with your city. 💚

I found that it could be super simple to practice a sustainable lifestyle, even outside of Earth Day. Here are a few ways I recommend shopping small + green while saving some green of your own.

♻️ Starting your morning with a pastry from Sweetdragon Baking Company, swing by the farmers market for local produce, or peruse spring fashion at Thrill of the Luxe.

♻️ The Source Zero is San Jose’s first zero-waste shop + soap refill boutique. Stop in and find goods crafted by local women artisans, such as these Organic Cotton Market Bags, or this “Sustainable Home” guidebook — perfect for anyone just starting with a sustainable lifestyle.
