Have you heard of the AI bot Craiyon? The artificial intelligence project — hosted by the company Hugging Face — has skyrocketed in popularity over the last month, sketching around 50,000 images per day based off of any prompt.
We joined in on the fun and had the bot draw three of San Jose’s most iconic landmarks, and here’s how well it did — according to us.
Note: This application shares nine versions of each photo, so we selected our favorite and added our score for the bot’s work.
👻 The Winchester Mystery House
Would Mrs. Sarah Winchester approve of this reimagining of her iconic mansion? While the bot didn’t quite capture the Queen Anne Revival style of the house, it did generate its grand size — showing the well-kept garden and its various towers + windows. Our score: 4/5

🎓 SJSU’s Tower Hall
Impressively, the AI bot got the colors right on SJSU’s oldest building — the Tower was stripped of its greenery in 2018 due to a rat problem. However, we’re seeing more of a resemblance to Santa Clara University’s flat-topped buildings — guess Craiyon isn’t a true Spartan. Our score: 3/5
🏒 SAP Center
Looks like the AI bot hasn’t been to the Tank. The rounded edges that Craiyon sketched definitely don’t match the SAP Center’s geometric design — this rendering must be from an alternate universe that’s stuck in the 1980s. Our score: 1/5
