Forget Coachella… Spring is in full swing in San Jose, which means more opportunities for outdoor events, like community festivals. Luckily, the next three weekends will each have a unique local festival worth checking out.

🎏 Nikkei Matsuri

Sun., April 24, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Stop by Japantown to celebrate the contributions + cultural achievements of San Jose’s Japanese American community. The festival will feature 36+ local artisan vendors, educational experiences at the Japanese American Museum, and performances by local judo clubs, dance schools, and IkuMi-Band (a local J-pop band).

Pro tip: Start festivities early with the Yu-Ai Kai 5K Fun Run, which runs from 9 a.m.-11 a.m. along Hensley, Empire, Taylor, and Mission. Register in advance.

Sun., May 1, 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

Hit the road as San Jose’s Department of Parks and Rec closes five miles of streets allowing residents to bike, wheel, or walk through some of our city’s most iconic neighborhoods.

There are three hubs where participants can enjoy food trucks, live music, and other activities for the whole family — Japantown, Parque De Los Pobladores + the Mexican Heritage Plaza.

Pro tip: Not able to join in the festivities? Review the route map for street closures that might affect you.

🎨 Berryessa Art Festival

Sat., May 7, 10 a.m.-5 p.m.

Celebrating its 45th anniversary, this festival directly funds art, music + other programs at the Berryessa Union School District.

Stop by the Penitencia Creek Park to explore countless booths featuring local artisans, food vendors + businesses. While you’re exploring, jam out to live music and enjoy a long-time staple of this festival — the samples of local wine.

Pro tip: Since the festival is a day before Mother’s Day, it’s a great place to buy handcrafted gifts.
