We know the question on your mind — when are we getting our sunny San Jo weather again?
Thanks to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center , we already know what temperatures and precipitation trends to expect in our city for January, February, and March. While exact weather conditions typically can’t be predicted more than a week in advance, here’s a seasonal outlook to help you prepare for what winter will bring.
Reminder: The winter solstice will end around March 19.
Expect higher temps + more rain.

🌡️ Temperature
Think “light jacket” weather. This winter, San Jose has a 50-60% chance of temperatures being higher than normal.
🌨️ Precipitation
We know you’ve heard it coming down recently. Our city is predicted to experience slightly more than our average rainfall this winter.
☀️ Drought
All that water conservation may have paid off... while drought conditions could persist, we’ll likely see some improvements this season.

January
Temperatures will rise by a couple of degrees from December. Historically, the average high + low temps are between 58.1° and 43.3° — but with predicted higher temps, you may be able to enjoy outdoor activities a little sooner than normal.
February
Temperature and precipitation are typically identical to January, averaging between 59.7° and 43.2°. However, expect the return of heavier showers. Get ready: This wet trend will continue as we enter spring, as March is San Jose’s rainiest month.
March
Along with being the month that brings the most showers, March is also the most humid. But, get excited for more sunlight. Usually when we head into spring, San Jose averages 12 daylight hours. Don’t forget: Daylight Saving Time starts on Sunday, March 10.
