Every mom deserves a special gift from our Mother’s Day Gift Guide. | Graphic provided by 6AM City
This year, instead of grabbing a last-minute present from the store, why not get the mom figure in your life a gift that is truly unique?

To help you out, we’ve created a gift guide featuring items from our online store, Six & Main, as well as products we love from other popular brands.

Moms are important to us all year, but Mother’s Day is when we can really show how special they truly are to us. From presents for the food and beverage fan to the art collector, let this gift guide lead you to the perfect present.

The outdoor enthusiast
The art collector
  • Add to mom’s art collection with pieces featuring dramatic skies, panoramic mountain vistas, and small-town area street scenes by Jeff Pittman Art.
  • For coastal vibes, explore colorful artwork by Dream a little ART SC.
  • If the walls are already full of beautiful art, fear not. This modern ceramic vase is the perfect decorative accent. Bonus: this vibrant coffee table book is chock-full of exquisite scenes from Mykonos.
The fashion lover
While this list is a great way to start shopping for mom, we’re working to grow our store, Six & Main, and would love to add more local vendors. If you know any local brands we should be promoting, let us know.

Wait, there’s more... Click the button below to explore presents for mothers who love home decor, snacks, beverages, and more.
Keep shopping for mom

News Notes
Weather
  • The first Spare the Air Alert of the year was issued this week, as the Bay Area’s air quality reached unhealthy levels in the 80 degree weather. The heat will continue throughout this weekend, but temperatures will go back down to the mid-60s next week. (KRON 4 News/The Weather Channel)
Civic
  • San Jose City Council unanimously voted to match a $3.6 million grant from the Metropolitan Transportation Commission to fully fund the Story Road-Keyes Street corridor safety project. Construction won’t begin until 2026, but the city wants to add separated bikeways, more lighting, and protected intersections to the 2.3-mile stretch. (San José Spotlight)
  • The city plans to work with a consultant to engage with residents and seek feedback about what should be done with the former Pleasant Hills Golf Course property. The site has been closed since 2004, and is being eyed for major housing developments. The first community meeting could be held by October. (San José Spotlight)
Biz
  • Google recently moved into two North San Jose office buildings along East Brokaw Road that are among four large campus buildings — totaling 729,000 sqft — that the tech giant leased in 2019. This news has not directly affected the ongoing uncertainty around the halted construction of Downtown West. (The Mercury News)
Development
  • The building that formerly housed SJ radio stations KLIV + KRTY will soon be demolished and replaced with a ~65,000-sqft warehouse. The 3.6-acre site located on Story Road was bought by a Scottsdale-based developer last year — construction may start as soon as this fall, and be complete within a year. (San José Spotlight)
Ranked
  • The San Jose metro ranks No. 1 in the highest concentration of software developers across the US. There are 67,780 software developers in the area, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics — that’s ~63.43 of every 1,000 jobs in SJ, just in this field. (KRON 4 News)
San Josean
  • Japantown’s State of Grace tattoo shop owner Takahiro “Ryudaibori” Kitamura recently published a book about the late tattoo artist, Bing Kuan “Pinky” Yun. The book memorializes the legendary Pinky’s designs that were gifted to Don Ed Hardy — learn more about the process behind putting it together. (Metro Silicon Valley)
Finance
  • Refinance rates are skyrocketing. But home equity rates remain relatively low — which means that now is a great time to borrow against your home. Calculate your payment.*

What would you suggest be improved and/or added to Plaza de Cesar Chavez?

A rendering of a 200-ft structure composed of hundreds of flexible white rods that seem to bend in the breeze. Around the structure are people, trees, and buildings in the city. Within the structure, a few people stand on observation platforms.

Could you picture this in Plaza de Cesar Chavez?

We asked this question earlier this week, and here’s what you had to say:

“Put something else like an Ohlone Indian statue or an American Eagle.” - Muneerah L.

“I’m very glad to hear that our leaders are committed to beautifying the city with art installations. I do have qualms with this apparent nod to the tech industry [...]” - Minh N.

“That statue is huge and will clog the open feeling in the park. I like how the park is open and can change with the seasons and/or events. [...] The park is great as it is. Leave it alone, I say.” - Craig C.

“Please don’t spend the money on that ‘sculpture.’ With the poor air quality in San Jose, it will only get dirty in short order [...]” - Margaret M.

From the editor
I just made last-minute plans to attend Symphony San Jose’s “Coco in Concert” on Sunday because, duh, it’s literally a masterpiece through and through — and live music? I’m all in. There are also going to be face painters, a craft market, Mexican food + beverages, and a Mariachi band (Sunday-exclusive). Have I convinced you? Get tickets.
