It’s always spooky season at the Winchester Mystery House. | @zeeneinreallife
Something about Friday the 13th landing in October just makes sense.
Let’s keep the ghoulish vibes going this month with some local well-known + lesser-known paranormal stories. Here’s our latest ghostly tale.
🧀 Chuck E. Cheese on Tully Road
Many locals may be familiar with the Chuck E. Cheese at 2445 Fontaine Road, more well-known as the Tully Road location and place where the 30-ft rat greets drivers on Highway 101.
What may not be common knowledge is that this location, credited with being the original Chuck E. Cheese (after moving from its South Winchester Boulevard location), is haunted by a young girl on its third floor.
The story goes that the little girl wandered up to the third floor when the building was occupied by then-Magic Village toy store and fell to her death from a balcony or window.
Employees have reported seeing a face peering out that upper window, sounds of children after hours, and malfunctioning lights.
Wave hello to the 30-ft Chuck E. Cheese off Highway 101.

But here’s the weird part — no deaths have been recorded at the location. Paranormal investigator Nick Groff has a theory that a “tulpa” (thought-form energy from Tibetan Buddhism) might be at play.
Groff explained that collective thoughts of others like believing in the presence of a ghost manifests into something tangible.
“If enough people walk into the building expecting to see the ghost of a little girl and project that mental energy into the space, eventually, that energy might coalesce into something that other people can experience,” Groff said in “Haunted San Jose.”

Raise your glass and pour one out for a local brewery.
S27 Alehouse, the first woman-owned brewery in San Jose’s Willow Glen neighborhood, will be closing its doors by the end of this month.
“There’s no ‘perfect storm’ story, no villain to uncover, no investigative work to be done, and no one to take any retribution out on,” said bar owner Kathy Szymanowski on Instagram.
Instead, she said their decision comes as a result of slowing sales and rising costs.
While no specific closure date has yet been announced, the bar’s Instagram page invites patrons to its last events in the taproom:
City Editor Gregg recommends trying out the delicious Victory Lap (Brut IPA), the delightfully smooth DIABEL (Irish Red Ale), or one of their in-house “hard” smoothies.
Tell me San Jose, do you believe in paranormal activity? Despite loving October + Halloween, I get a little anxious when it comes to ghost stories or reported hauntings... let’s see how I do when I visit Winchester Mystery House’s “Unhinged: Housewarming” next week.
