Head coach Brent Brennan is leaving San Jose State football to lead University of Arizona next season. Brennan led the Spartans to three bowl games in the last four seasons, including their first Mountain West championship in 2020. You’ll be missed in the 408, Coach Brennan.(The Mercury News)
Opening
The award-winning Petiscos will be opening a second location in Little Portugal on Wednesday, Jan. 24, at the site of ADEGA, San Jose’s first Michelin Star restaurant. The new location will feature the same casual Portuguese fare, with expanded wine options.
Development
Urban Catalyst has received initial funding for its downtown developments. The sites on East Santa Clara + North Fourth streets have landed early-stage financing to the tune of $10.5 million. No timeline has been announced, but the towers would add ~1,000 market-rate residential units. (The Mercury News)
Closing
Kelly-Moore Paints will shutter all stores across the US this week, including eight in San Jose. Citing “massive legal and financial burdens,” the Bay Area-based business had incurred mounting legal debts in court battles over multiple decades for its use of asbestos in products prior to 1981. Plan Ahead
The San Jose Sharks return to the Tank to take on the Anaheim Ducks on Saturday, Jan. 20. All fans in attendance will receive a Hawaiian-printed shirt for the team’s “Summer in January” promotion.
