San Jose plans to add 107 units to an existing 82-unit tiny home site at 5898 Rue Ferrari. Leaders have secured $1 million in federal funding for the expansion, and once it opens by this time next year, the site will house up to 270 San Joseans experiencing homelessness.

Clara’s Junction — a new indoor-outdoor restaurant located 10 minutes from Levi’s Stadium — is open at 2221 Tasman Dr. in Santa Clara. The spot offers game watch parties, a taco truck, and a “live action BBQ pit” in its outdoor space featuring fire pits, lawn games, and weekly events.

Porsche Cars North America recently opened its first-ever Porsche NOW pop-up store in the US at Santana Row. The lounge-style location near Hotel Valencia boasts an electrified Porsche on display, and plans to offer curated events down the road. Development
A former Fry’s Electronics store in Fremont that closed in 2021 could be redeveloped into a manufacturing, tech + research hub — not the first time a shuttered Fry’s has drawn the interest of tech developers. Florida-based Sterling Organization bought the 143,800-sqft site for $35.7 million over the summer. (The Mercury News)
History
City Council granted historical designation to Grace Baptist Church in downtown San Jose, which will protect the site from demolition and future development — including a proposal to turn the parcel into housing. The church was built in 1941 and offers space for homeless advocacy groups to provide community services. (San Jose Spotlight)

There’s a new internet service provider in town. Twist Broadband, powered by Sail Internet, is now available to ~50,000 households in the San Jose, Santa Clara + Milpitas areas. The company plans to reach another 100,000 households by November on its mission to increase community connectivity.

Niche ranked Mountain View-Los Altos Union High School District No. 11 among the Best School Districts in America and Los Gatos-Saratoga Joint Union High School District No. 23. Both nearby districts — which each serve students in grades 9-12 — received high marks for their academics, teachers, and college prep.

Afternoon | By Sainer This Little Italy art piece depicts a tired elderly woman sitting in a chair and a young person playing a flute. Meant to represent a view of the Italian countryside, the mural sits at the entrance of the original settlement for Italian immigrants in downtown San Jose.
Gross/Holmes Building | By Ricky Watts Created as a part of the inaugural Pow! Wow! San Jose festival, the colorful looping 3D swirls of psychedelic gradients light up the side of the Gross/Holmes building on North First Street.
Malama Aina | by Taylor Reinhold, Erik Smiley, and Casey Landaker Located on North Market Street, this mural celebrates the traditions, culture, and achievements of AAPI people. The phrase “malama aina” is a Hawaiian phrase meaning “caring for and honoring the land.”
