Civic
  • Santa Clara County’s Vote Centers are officially open for the next 11 days, 9 a.m.-5 p.m., starting today. If you’d rather vote in person for the Presidential General Election, Vote Centers will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 5, too.

  • According to The Travel, San Jose has the “most underrated Little Japan” in the US. The publication touted the neighborhood’s rich history, culture, and charm — and we’ve gotta say, we totally get it. Check out our guide to Japantown.
Open
  • Yes, chef. One year after closing, Adega — San Jose’s first and only Michelin-starred restaurant — is reopening. The Portuguese restaurant in Little Portugal will welcome guests once more starting on Friday, Nov. 15. Want to keep up with local food news? Read more on our website.
Development
  • A $30 million project to establish a Latino cultural district in Alum Rock has raised nearly $25 million thus far and could become a reality by 2025. La Avenida would span Alum Rock Avenue from 28th Street to Sunset Avenue — including many Latino-owned small businesses along the way. (CBS News)

  • There’s a new police chief in town. City leaders have appointed Paul Joseph as SJPD’s new Chief of Police. Joseph — who officially starts his job on Monday, Oct. 28 — has been with the department since 1994 and was serving as Acting Chief of Police for the last six months.
Biz
  • Despite some community opposition due to traffic concerns, San Jose City Council has approved the construction of a new Costco on Prospect Road in West San Jose — although an opening date has yet to be determined. Costco promises to bring 250-300 jobs to the area. (KRON)

  • History San Jose will host San Jose Roots on Saturday, Nov. 2, 12-4 p.m., at the Gonzales/Peralta Adobe. The free outdoor event will celebrate our city’s Indigenous, Spanish, and Mexican history and will feature dance performances, local poets, community resource booths, vendors, and family-friendly activities.
