Lunar New Year is upon us, San Jose.
Though its official dates vary across different Asian cultures, the Lunar New Year is a celebration of the start of spring and a new year on the lunisolar calendar. This year, celebrations will begin around Wednesday, Jan. 29, and run through late-February. Let’s see where you can ring in the Year of the Snake around the great 408.

Academic Coffee’s new Santa Clara location is now open daily, 7 a.m.-4 p.m. Find it on North Winchester Boulevard next to Agrihood, an urban farm and living community from which the cafe will eventually source its produce.

Canada-based grocery chain T&T Supermarket will open its first California location this fall at Westgate Center. The San Jose store will sell a wide selection of Asian products, live seafood, meat, and ready-to-eat meals. It will also feature a BBQ counter, noodle station, dim sum, and a Chinese crepe station. Traffic
Safety upgrades are coming to downtown Campbell’s busy Civic Center Drive at the intersections of Second + Third streets. In an effort to curb crashes, keep pedestrians safe, and improve outdated infrastructure, the area will get higher visibility crosswalks, islands between lanes, and curb ramps. Construction should take about six months. (San Jose Spotlight)
Biz
Goodwill of Silicon Valley recently bought a 198,000-sqft office building in north San Jose near SJC that the organization plans to use as its new headquarters and job training site. Goodwill paid $17 million for the space, $10 million of which was a gift from Amazon co-founder + philanthropist MacKenzie Scott. (SiliconValley.com)

San Jose Day — a celebration of our city’s arts + culture — is on Sunday, April 13 and organizers are seeking ~80 vendors. Applications are being accepted through Sunday, Feb. 16 for local creatives who want to sell their products or host activities like art workshops.

The Animal Care Center is extending its downtown Pawp-Up at 93 E. San Carlos St. through Saturday, Feb. 15. Since it opened last December, the pet adoption pop-up has helped 39 pets find forever homes. It’s open Thursday-Sunday, 12-5 p.m.

Viva Calle San Jose — the open streets program running 10 years strong — just dropped the dates for its 2025 events. Plan for non-motorized activities like walking, running, skating, and bicycling along SJ’s streets on Sunday, April 13, June 8, and Sept. 7.
