The San José Public Library (SJPL) received a $500,000 grant from the Carnegie Corporation of New York — one of only 11 public libraries in the US selected for the important funding.
The grant will help SJPL expand its ESL readiness programs to 2,000 additional teen + adult English language learners through a two-year initiative.
SJPL says 65,000+ San Jose residents speak English less than “very well.” These ESL programs are designed to improve English skills and job readiness, and “give our residents the transformational power to chart a new future for themselves and their families.”
