Whether you’re a sports fanatic — or just look good in teal and gray — when it comes to sports, San Jose has no shortage of teams to support. Today, let’s dive into the Sharks, who will start the 2025-2026 season with their home opener on Thursday, Oct. 9.
San Jose Sharks (NHL) | Est. 1991
We’re not called Teal Town for nothing. The Sharks put the great 408 on the map as a hockey town. A new deal approved by San Jose City Council last month will keep the team playing in SJ until at least 2051.
Fun fact: The team’s name came from a “Name the New NHL Team” sweepstakes many moons ago.
Where they play: SAP Center Formerly known as the San Jose Arena (1993-2001), Compaq Center (2001-2002), and HP Pavilion (2002-2013). Fans also call it “The Shark Tank.”
