As our city officials settle into their roles following November’s lively election season — we think it’s important for San Joseans to know who they’re working with. Let’s get to know who makes up our city council.

Matt Mahan | Mayor Mahan is San Jose’s 66th mayor, and will be serving a limited two-year term. Learn more about his goals.

Rosemary Kamei | Recently elected to City Council for the first time, Kamei spent 17 years as Director of the Santa Clara Valley Water District and served as the Chief Development and Innovation Officer at the Silicon Valley Education Foundation.

Veteran developer Swenson wants to demolish a downtown building at 115 Terraine St. that was once home to a Levi Strauss manufacturing center dating back to the 1940s. The proposal seeks to replace the two-story building with a parking lot. No further information on a development timeline has been announced. (Silicon Valley)

Safety first. In a recent study by Smart Asset, San Jose was ranked No. 24 out of the 200 safest cities in the US. Community
The Office of Cultural Affairs is hosting the series, “Sunset Sounds,” at the Sonic Runway in front of City Hall every Wednesday, 5:30-6:30 p.m., until March 15. Today’s event will include beats by DJ Rhythm + sweets by Luv’s Brownies. Stay tuned for this Saturday’s event, which features an electric cello performance by Cellista. 🎶
Older Adults
Saddle up, San Joseans. The 15th Annual Senior Winter Walk & Resource Fair is next Friday, Feb. 24, 8-10 a.m., at Westfield Oakridge Mall. This year’s theme is “Wild, Wild West” and will include western-themed group activities, giveaways, breakfast, and raffle prizes; the free event is open to residents ages 50+. 🎟️
