New mural unveiled at East San Jose McDonald’s
How beautiful is this mural? | Photo by SJtoday staff
Is this not the prettiest McDonald’s you’ve ever seen?
This week, a new mural called “Patterns of Nature” by local artist Hector Covarrubias was unveiled at the McDonald’s located on Story Road. The artwork was commissioned by McDonald’s as part of its Ritmo y Color imitative that celebrates Latino culture.
The vibrant painting displays symbols of Mexican folklore + heritage like the butterfly, which is meant to signify the history of immigrant travel. There are also marigold flowers that are native to Hector’s hometown of Guadalajara, Mexico.
Once inside, you’ll notice the mural doesn’t end. It covers the walls and includes a special section that allows you to scan a QR code and bring the artwork to life on your phone.
For those of you who caught me at Off Nite at the Tabard Theatre on Monday — apologies for teasing you about Cinequest. But don’t worry, a guide is in the works and coming soon with some film suggestions that Cinequest CEO and co-founder Halfdan Hussey is excited for.
