News Notes
Development
  • A new six-story, 99-unit affordable housing complex will soon come to 797 S. Almaden Ave. The city is applying for funding from the U.S. Housing and Urban Development Dept. to cover the estimated project cost of $118.1 million. (The Mercury News)
Biz
  • Duo Apartments, a four-story, two-building complex in South San Jose, was recently bought by an LA-based real estate firm for $93.5 million. This sale follows a trend from Fairfield Residential Company LLC selling Silicon Valley properties for more than $90 million within the last three years. (Silicon Valley Business Journal)
Ranked
  • San Jose was recently ranked the second best US city for families, according to a new article by U.S. News and World report. The ranking praised our local high school students’ college readiness, but pointed out the higher cost of living as compared to other metro areas. (NBC Bay Area/U.S. News and World Report)
Open
  • After 19 months, Poor House Bistro has reopened. In January 2022, the restaurant was moved to Little Italy to make way for Google’s Downtown West village. It now shares space with the Italian Museum. Owner Jay Meduri hopes to bring live music to the patio very soon. (The Mercury News)
Opening
  • A few new stores are shuffling into Santana Row, with the newest opening at YETI, an outdoor apparel + equipment store. Other stores include Suspiro, a Peruvian Spanish fusion eatery, Urban Plates, a farm-to-table style restaurant, and Fitoor, an Indian grill and lounge. (The Mercury News)
Finance
  • Refinance rates are skyrocketing. But home equity rates remain relatively low — which means that now is a great time to borrow against your home. Calculate your payment.*

From the editor
I’m in Sacramento today, just wrapping up my time at the Sol Blume music festival. I was able to visit my coworker and friend, Jordan, who is the city editor for SACtoday. It’s not too far of a drive, and if you think there’s nothing to do in Sac, think again.
