Development
  • The long-shuttered Burbank Theater may be turned into housing. The project proposes a 62-residence, five-story building with ground-floor retail. Local preservationists are trying to get the theater historic landmark status, and ensure developers preserve the “Burbank Theater” sign. (SiliconValley.com)
Edu
  • A new private university, California Miramar University, will launch its inaugural fall semester this year in a 20,600-sqft space at 505 S. Market St. The institution will offer a variety of business + computer programs, and is expected to host 1,000 students. Construction is currently underway. (The Mercury News)
Coming Soon
  • Raising Cane’s may soon open its first SJ location. While some speculate it could open at East Capitol Expressway near Eastridge, the chicken finger chain posted a job listing for a management position at North Capitol Avenue + McKee Road. The chain has not made any formal announcements.
Outdoors
  • The Conservation Fund officially purchased about 3,650 acres of Richmond Ranch for $16 million. The Santa Clara Valley Habitat Agency + the Parks and Recreation Department were purchasing acres in bits, with the eventual goal of preserving the land + providing hiking trails. (The Mercury News)
Fun Fact
  • Did you know that Recycle Bookstore’s Campbell location is celebrating its 20-year anniversary this year? The store opened in 2004 + moved to its current spot ~5 years ago. Home to 60,000 new and used books, you can snuggle up next to a cat for your next read. (The Mercury News)
Travel
  • San Jose Mineta Airport announced that JetBlue will resume its season service to Boston starting Wednesday, May 4. As of Monday afternoon, that month’s fares begin at $113.

When San Jose officially ended its ban on lowriding in 2022, the United Lowrider Council, their supporters + other local lowrider clubs gathered for a massive rally at City Hall to mark the one-year anniversary. This picture perfectly captures that moment — the celebration, the joy, and the community.
