We know the question on your mind, fellow San Joseans — when’s it going to get consistently hot again? Thanks to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center, we know what temperatures and precipitation trends to expect in our city for June, July, and August.

While exact weather conditions typically can’t be predicted more than a week in advance, here’s a seasonal outlook to help you prepare for what summer will bring.

Reminder: The first day of summer is on Wednesday, June 21.

🌡️ Temperature

Think hot. This summer, San Jose has a 33-40% chance of temperatures being higher than normal.

🌨️ Precipitation

Expect slight precipitation. While trends point to a typical amount rainfall for SJ, there’s a 60% likelihood that an El Niño will begin this month — bringing light rain and a bit of humidity to the Bay Area.

June

Usually in San Jose, June is the beginning of our region’s warm weather, as the average high of 70.5°F in May heats up to a toasty average high of 78.4°F and a low of 53.2°F this month.

Also, June is the month with the longest days — averaging approx. 14 hours and 41 min of daylight. Sounds perfect to fit in all the pool visits, Pride Month pop-ups, and hiking trips, huh?

July

In July, it heats up even more. As the warmest month, you can expect an average high of 82°F and a low of 55.2°F. Lucky for us, and maybe your hair, this month brings the least humidity. Stay cool.

August

The last month of summer will follow closely to July’s trends with an average high of 81.9°F and a low of 56.5°F. The maximum UV index averages at 6, so, don’t skip the sunscreen.

What do you think of the city’s newest plans for San Pedro Street?

Answered: San Pedro Street’s revamp

Last week, we asked what you thought about the city’s decision to revamp San Pedro Street into a completely pedestrian-friendly, open-mall layout.

Many you had opinions about this anticipated move — here’s what you had to say.

A lot of praise

“Yes love the open feel of San Pedro Square. I don’t like First and Second street in downtown San Jose. The light rail and cars are noisy and outdoor seating at restaurants is a no-go. This is what people love — to eat and enjoy time outside since we have beautiful weather.” - Henry + Delfina S.

Some hesitation

“If we don’t find a way to deal with homelessness, it isn’t gonna look this pretty...” - @escalanteluis320

Suggestions for the future

“This is great news!! Next one [on] the list... SoFA District pls!” - @haleyoverthemoon

“Now we just need to close down Post Street.” - @haus_of_favulous

From the editor
Happy Pride Month, San Jose. I’d like to dedicate today’s note to my sweet, loving, and caring partner who helped me realize my true self not too long ago. Three years ago, I would have never imagined living with and celebrating Pride month alongside a partner — here’s to progress.
