Deebo Samuel’s status for Sunday’s NFC Championship Game versus the Lions is still up in the air. Coach Shanahan revealed earlier this week that Samuel sustained a shoulder injury — with no fracture — during Saturday’s match against the Packers. Deebo did not practice with the team on Wednesday, but is “feeling better.” (Deadspin)
Biz
San Jose City Council unanimously approved an ordinance that will prevent companies accused of wage theft from finishing construction projects. Of the ~100 wage theft judgments from 2018-2023 in Santa Clara County, half are still unpaid. The ordinance is pending approval from the city manager. (San José Spotlight)

Pedals to the metal… Viva Calle is coming back this year. The Sunday bike parties will happen April 21, June 9, and Sept. 8. Details on specific routes and road closures for each event are still forthcoming.
Opening
Angelou’s Mexican Grill will re-open in a new downtown location (78 S. First St.) early February. Redevelopment in the restaurant’s original spot (21 N. Second St.) had caused it to temporarily close in late 2023. We recommend the positively scrumptious Cali Moco burrito. (San José Spotlight)
Closed
San Pedro Street is now San Jose’s first permanent pedestrian mall, following a vote from San Jose City Council. While the street has been closed to cars since July 2020, the decision was only temporary through the city’s Al Fresco initiative. City council will now move forward with pedestrian-friendly improvements. (NBC Bay Area)

The culinary world is still sleeping on SJ… The James Beard Award nominees are officially out, and while 18 Bay Area chefs are in the running as semifinalists, San Jose culinarians appear to have been snubbed, once again. The great 408 currently only has two Michelin-recognized restaurants. (The Mercury News)

The recent round of rain has come + gone, and sunny skies persist… and, inexplicably, so do puddles on certain San Jose roadways. We’re talking the southbound I-101 before I-880, and northbound I-880 between North Bascom + the Alameda.
Even without rain, these spots continue to retain water, but why? Here’s what we know.
Your new favorite water bottle: the Owala Travel Tumbler. It combines the best of Stanley’s viral tumbler with Owala’s smart design. We’re liking colors “Bunny Hop” and “Foggy Tide.”
If you were hoping to see the Niners take on the Lions at this weekend’s NFC Championship Game, you’ll need to fork over a pretty penny: the game is one of the most expensive in conference title history, with the average price at $2,431, or 358.6 avocado toasts.
